SEPHORA Long Wearing Matte Lipstick in Cherry Rose 10 Review, Swatch, LOTD

By Christina

Sephora is an American brand that has a range of cosmetic products that are prices lower than products from the many other lines.  The hallmark of their cosmetics line has always been their extensive selection of makeup brushes.  They also have an amazing range of accessories from makeup bags to train cases and all kinds of beauty tools

Beauty bloggers in India are currently going cuckoo over Sephora products.  Everywhere you look someone’s ranting and raving about it.  I managed to get hold of one of their products via my mother in law, on her return from Europe.
What Sephora says about its Long Wearing Matte Lipstick:
A highly-pigmented, long-lasting lipstick with a matte finish.  This rich matte formula glides on smooth with an intense, stay-true colour that lasts all day – and night. Plus the hydrating formula keeps lips hydrated and protected.
Sephora Maniac Long-Wearing Lipsticks come in two finishes – matte and shimmer.
Price: $12
Quantity: 2.35 gms

These are the colours available in the matte range:

• Color: Mat 10 (matte cherry rose)
• Color: Mat 09 (matte merlot)
• Color: Mat 08 (matte deep rose)
• Color: Mat 07 (matte peach)
• Color: Mat 06 (matte neutral beige)
• Color: Mat 05 (matte pink brown)
• Color: Mat 04 (matte mauve plum)
• Color: Mat 03 (matte warm rose)
• Color: Mat 02 (matte natural pink)
• Color: Mat 01 (matte bright pink)

Cherry Rose is absolutely gorgeous.   I was sad when I first swatched it on my hand because my initial thought was ‘yuk red’.  It was after I put it on my lips that I realised how pretty it was.  It has a stain like quality that I find very endearing, making it easy to achieve a brighter and deeper colour.  Even as a stain I find that it brightens up the face.   The application is smooth and even and gives a highly pigmented colour with a soft matte finish. If you want a glossy look then top it up with transparent or similar coloured gloss.

The company claims the lipstick is hydrating and well that is true to a certain extent because my lips didn’t totally dry out. Long-wear lipsticks generally dry up after a couple of hours. I also love the sleek black tube it comes in.  To test it, well I applied it at 8 pm and brushed my teeth with it on, drank a cup of tea, had lunch and yapped a whole lot.  The colour is now a stain and its 5 pm.  Long lasting enough????????

A little about matte lipsticks:

  • Matte lipstick can be dry and drier, depending on the brand.
  • For the office or day wear, matte somehow seems to be the best option
  • Moisturize your lips using a lip balm.
  • Matte colours look good only on smooth and soft lips.  (exfoliate with some cooking oil and a bit of salt)
  • Matte formulas only enhance flawed, chapped or dry lips.
  • Matte lipsticks are dryer than other formulas so use your finger or a lip brush to distribute the colour evenly. Rubbing your lips together is not going to help you.
  • If matte is not the thing for you but you like the colour, top it off with a hydrating lip gloss.

Pros:
  1. Lovely colour for young and fair skinned gals
  2. Instantly brightens up the face
  3. True matte colour
  4. Highly pigmented
  5. Chic tube
  6. Good quantity
  7. Affordable
Cons:
  1. Tested on animals
  2. Not available in India
  3. Not the very best in terms of quality although its ‘FOREIGN’!
  4. Suitable for fair skinned gals only
  5. Not the best thing for office or day wear
  6. Have to exfoliate and prep lips for a matte lipstick
