MAC Cremesheen Lipstick Modesty Review

By Rmyah

Wow, I had been shopping after what feels like decades and the first store I ended up at is the MAC at GVK One Hyderabad. I somehow cannot control myself whenever I go shopping at GVK. Its as if the MAC store calls out to me. Well anyway, so this time I was lured by the lipstick counter ( I honestly swear there’s a witch who cast a MAC spell on me) and I ended up buying one of the most beautiful shades I have ever laid  my eyes on. Modesty.

As the name suggests it is a very beautiful n*de pink with a slight mauve undertone to it. Its typically an MLBB color for many medium to fair skinned girls out there. MAC Modesty falls under the Cremesheen category of lipsticks.
What the MAC Website says about the MAC Lipsticks
Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M·A·C famous.

MAC describes Modesty as a Muted Neutral Pink ( Cremesheen ).
Here are the website swatches of the Modesty Lipstick
Packaging
Modesty comes in the standard MAC black packaging. I somehow find the bullet shape of the container very sexy. And the classic black with tiny silver speckles in it also gives it a very sophisticated look. I’m sure we recognize a MAC anywhere.
Color
I find MAC’s Modesty to be with a bit more mauvey look than a muted brown pink as stated by the website. Or maybe its just because I have a ruddier natural lip color. The color is absolutely perfect for anytime day wear and goes perfectly well with a bold eye makeup.
Modesty has enough color to not completely wash out your face but aslo is enough n*de to go with a heavy eye makeup.

For me, I’m a huge fan of neutral shades and have almost ten neutral pinks browns and peaches in my collection. Modesty is definitely a welcome addition to my collection and compliments my skin tone perfectly.
My skin is on the slightly cooler side so this definitely adds a bit of color to my face while not making me look too pale or washed out. It may not work for dusky beauties as this doesn’t carry enough color to stand out on a darker skin tone.

Texture
MAC Modesty falls under the cremesheen category of lipsticks. MAC have their own typical categories of lipsticks which makes it further easier to choose your favourite finish from them. Cremesheen is a creamy lipstick which gives a slight sheen to the lipstick like you have applied a subtle lip gloss over your lipstick but not so much shine that it goes over the top. Cremesheen lipsticks are very buttery and glide on your lips, they do not dry out your lips like the matte lipsticks.
My personal favourite finish is the cremesheen which keeps my lips moisturised but not sticky. Modesty is no exception, it glides on my lips and doesn’t dry them out.

Finish
Modesty provides excellent pigmentation. I have slightly pigmented lips but that in no way deters from the color of the lipstick. The color shows up just in one swipe and multiple swipes does not change the color from a single swipe. So you get the exact same color no matter how many times you swipe it over your lips.

The staying power is decent. It stayed on for about three hours on my lips with a light snack in between. The major problem with the cremesheen lipsticks are that they transfer onto cups and glasses. So make sure you have a tissue ready.
I really like the way my face gets so much color with just one swipe of Modesty on my lips.
Pros of Modesty

  • Beautiful color, Perfect MLBB for most Indian skin tones.
  • Very pigmented, shows up despite pigmented lips
  • Buttery soft, glides on lips, does not tug
  • Moisturising, does not dry out the lips

Cons of Modesty

  • Staying power isn’t too long
  • Might be expensive for some.

I being a student can afford only one or two of the MAC beauties, but it’s a definite must have color for students who like color but risk being OTT. I wouldn’t mind splurging on such a beautiful color every now and then.
This is definitely one color which will get a very vigorous use from me.
