MAC 187 Duo Fibre Brush Review

MAC 187 Duo Fibre Brush Review

I am sure most of you must have heard a lot about this brush. I believe that a good quality makeup brush makes a huge difference in the makeup application and delivers a flawless finish. Hence I do not compromise in the quality. As a beginner, I started with The Body Shop brushes ( which are great) and then upgraded to MAC brushes slowly. This was my first MAC brush and am really happy with it.

What MAC says:
The Mac 187 Duo Fibre brush is a large full circular brush used for lightweight application and blending of face powder or pigments. Use to create soft layers or add textures. Made from a soft blend of goat and synthetic fibres.
Length: 18cms
Price: Rs.2550. MAC has increased the price now.
About the brush:
This is also called as a stippling brush. The brush has a triangular shape with a flat top. It is not very dense but just enough to pick the right amount of foundation. You can see that the bristles of this brush are in two shades.

The top half is white in colour and is made of synthetic hair while the second half is in black and is made of natural goat hair. The foundation should be taken only on the white bristles of the brush. I have applied a coat of clear nail polish over the number so that it does not get rubbed off.

How do I use it:

I bought this to be used along with the MAC studio fix fluid. I take 1 pump of the fluid on the back of my wrist. I spray some rose water on the brush and then just touch the tip of the brush on the fluid. Then stipple the product on the face. No sweeping or swirling else it will go streaky. This helps to spread the product evenly and gives an airbrushed finish. One needs patience and practice to get a flawless effect. But once you get the hang of it, this becomes your holy grail.

1.Very soft,does not prick
2.Does not create streaky effect
3.Does not bleed or shed much
4.Easily available
5.Dense enough to pick the right amount of product
6.Multipurpose brush

It is very expensive even for a MAC brush. But I think it is a one time investment as brushes go on for many years.

My experience with the brush:
Iam very satisfied with this brush. This is my first stippling brush and I have learnt how to use it after much practice. It can be used to apply setting powder, powder blushes and cream blushes also. If you want to buy just one face brush from MAC, I would say go for 187. It has to be used with a very light hand. I use MAC Brush Cleanser to clean this when Iam in a hurry. Otherwise, a shampoo or a face wash to bathe this little baby. It shed tiny tiny hair for the first few washes. But nothing after that.

Rating: 4.75/5 ( For the price)
Final verdict:
Go for it if you are looking for a foundation brush that would help you achieve that naturally airbrushed finish. You would need some practice to use this perfectly but it helps in spreading the foundation evenly. You need only a little amount of foundation with this brush as the bristles do not soak much product.
