I have never been excited about BB and CC creams as I have sensitive skin and most of them break me out with regular usage. When MAC launched the BB range ( Beauty Balm and Compact), I was tempted to pick it up but felt it was too expensive for just a BB Cream. I saw it at the store many times and just walked out as if I hadn’t noticed but kept crying inside that I should have atleast given a try. I am not someone who shells out money on cosmetics very easily unless I find it really worth the money. Especially when it comes to base makeup, I make sure I do a test so my friendly makeup artist at MAC offered to do a full face application and happily gave me a generous sample too. I fell in love the way it glided on my face ( I applied it myself on one half during the trial) and my pores appeared smaller . I walked out of the store with an even brighter face.
I roamed with the BB cream on my face whole day and did not wash till the evening. I used the sample for more than a week to see if it breaks me out and after seeing the end result, plunged to get the full size ( rare case).
Price: Rs. 2100 for 40ml.
Packaging: Classy black shiny tube, very travel friendly. The outer box is so pretty with a black with blue glitter. This is how the entire Prep + Prime range is packaged.
The fact that it contains SPF 35 ( great for a BB cream ) impressed me. The Makeup artist told me that the Beauty Balm comes in 2 variants – the tube one for oily skin and in compact form for dry skin.
I have the one that is meant for oily skin. Though it contains SPF, it does not make me look ashy, even in photos. It has a smooth creamy texture and blends easily. I use my fingers for application. It minimizes my pores instantly and makes my skin smooth and soft. It has silicones and I was initially skeptical as silicones can break out sensitive skin but thankfully, this suits me. My skin looks much better with the BB cream.
I bought the shade Medium Plus which is perfect for my NC40 skintone. It is beige toned with a hint of pink but it matches my skin very well. This range mostly has pink tones so shade selection would be a big issue for Indians.
It has sunscreen , moisturizer and a tint all in one tube so it is a fantastic product for working women who do not like wearing foundations on a daily basis. It gives low to medium coverage and is buildable. It evens out the skin and makes it glow naturally. It keeps my skin oil free, yet moisturized throughout the day. On humid days, you may need a compact for touch ups.
It photographs well and keeps skin shine free. It hides upper lip pigmentation, acne scars and dark circles to a small extent and evens out the skin. I wish they introduced more shades for Indian skin. I am lucky to have found my right shade but most of friends find it too pink.
Rating: 4.9/5 ( Expensive and shade range)
Here is the comparison – Left ( Bare Face) , Right ( With Just MAC BB Cream, A light pink blush and lipstick). This is the best BB cream I have come across. Worth every penny. If you are able to find your right shade, grab it. Do not forget to ask for a sample and try it for atleast a week. Those with dry skin can try the compact version of the beauty balm.
