Price: 30 dollars, it is often in sale for 15 dollars in Elf website. I bought it for Rs. 1500 from an Indian online site.
Packaging: The eyeshadow case comes with a transparent lid which feels very flimsy and not sturdy at all. But as I would not carry this palette for travel, I think the packaging is quite decent for the price.
Shade: The Elf Ultimate 144 eyeshadow palette as the name suggests it comes with 144 array of colors. The palette covers the whole spectrum in terms of colours and finishes. I wanted to own one palette with all bright colors so I gave this one a try.
Formula: There are different eyeshadow finishes in this palette – matte, satin and shimmer. There are also some matte finish eyeshadows with tiny flecks of glitter. The satin and shimmer finish eyeshadows have the best pigmentation. The matte shades have a mix of pigmentation, the lighter colors have low color pay off and deeper colors are much better in pigmentation. The matte blues, some greens have very low color intensity when compared to warmer brown eyeshadows. The texture of the shadows is decent, majority of the eyeshadows are soft but the matte ones are powdery and chalky. I would definitely recommend tapping off the brush before you apply the eyeshadows on your eyes to prevent fallout. I was interested only on the shimmery and satin eyeshadows when I bought the palette. I must say, I am quite happy with the bargain. I always use a creamy base or an eye primer under these eyeshadows to make them appear more vibrant.
Staying power: The eyeshadows lasts for about 3 hours on me. A good primer would increase the staying power of the eyeshadows.
Pros of Elf Ultimate 144 Eyeshadow Palette
- 144 eyeshadow colors in a single palette
- Decent texture and pigmentation
- Different eyeshadow finishes from matte, satin to shimmer
Cons of Elf Ultimate 144 Eyeshadow Palette
- Majority of the matte eyeshadows have chalky feel
- Not easily available in India
- The eyeshadows have fall out issues
Final words: The Elf Ultimate 144 eyeshadow palette is a good budget buy. The negatives of this eyeshadow palette are there as some eyeshadows are chalky, sheer in pigmentation and have a powdery feel. The eyeshadows definitely don’t have a consistent formula throughout the palette. But, for the price and quality, if you grab it on a sale you just can’t go wrong. I like the satin and shimmery eyeshadows in this palette, so I would say that I am quite pleased with my buy! This would be a good buy for a beginner or for anyone who wants to experiment with different shades without burning a hole in their pocket!
